Rod & Tabitha's Cake

This is the wedding cake I made for my brother in law's wedding on 2/12/05. It was a lot of work & took a bit of trial and error and my trusty 'Wilton's Cake' book to accomplish.

During the decorating I found out that I was WAY OUT OF PRACTICE from the day's I decorated cookies (not that *THAT* required any real skills or anything) and was glad I took the time to do a heavily iced practice cake. (Which my nephews liked immensely =) ) On the finished cake I had to ditch the 'ribbon' that was suppose to go over the ruffles. I just could not get it to look right no matter what I did. I also deleted the "shell' like border across the top of the bottom 2 layers. It was suppose to match the one going around the bottom of those layers, but it kept falling off and looking crappy >.< so I left it off.

Though it didn't turn our exactly as intended due to my lack of decorating skills, I think it came out really nice. I got A LOT of complements on it. My husband said Rod wanted 'simple but elegant' and that he thought it was. After a good nights sleep (I stayed up literally ALL NIGHT to finish it on time.) I think I would have to agree.
