Discus

This picture was done as a Father's Day gift for my dad. He raises tropical fish, mainly Discus, and when I asked him what he would like me to paint for him... this was his request.

This was painted entirely with watercolors and was finished on 6/19/04.

I tried out a lot of new stuff with this one and learned quite a bit. It didn't come out quite as nice as I would have liked. I particularly don't like the rocks. I tried using a sponge technique on them and the more I look at it, the crappier it looks ~.~. The only part that came out like I had intended on the first try (lots of lifting off paint and starting over here ^_~) are the large leaves behind the fish. This picture *DOES* look better matted... though that's probably due to the fact I covered up a bit of that crappy rock doing so =P.

My dad, like all dads I think ^_~, loved it flaws and all and hung it next to the picture I did for my mom.
