SFS ~ These Boots Are Made For...

People do so many things that are either bad for them or uncomfortable just for the sake of being/looking sexy. This series is my take at trying to catch those glamorous moments when comfort and health concerns are thrown aside.

In so many ways from time to time we all find ourselves SUFFERING FOR SEXY.

Camera: Minolta X7A
Film: 400 T-max B&W

This was done for the 'My Society' final assignment. I went into this project with aim of trying to show the many way people 'Suffer For Sexy' without actually stating obviously what I was doing. I also tried to give the whole project a certain glamorous feel and look. Hopefully I at least got close.

The edge effect and the black borders were created in the darkroom by using masks/templates and exposing different parts of the photo paper differently. The idea for doing the edges like this came from the fact that I was getting really board with printing pictures at this point and wanted to do something different. I also had SEVERAL images for this project that didn't come out like I had wanted and I needed a way to make them look good because I didn't have time to re-shoot the whole project.

This particular shot was one of the crappy ones. It was such a great angle, but when printed it looked fuzzy to me. The solution was to expose the full negative frame within the print. I usually crop & tweak my pictures to make them look better, so this really didn't sit well with me. Especially since I still felt it needed more. All that while border was bothering me. So I fiddled and came up with edge treatment that I used for the entire series. I really felt that it helped to capture the feel of what I was trying to achieve. It also made several not so good shots (in my opinion anyway, others liked them. ::shrugs::) and made them look great.

This project was finished winter 2007.

Critique - The teacher was VERY IMPRESSED with this project & stated that it made a nice 'body of work.' She was also glad that I had experimented and thought the results were fantastic. I was told by a friend that she even mentioned it the next semester to the new class. I think this was her favorite from the whole series.
