This assignment's objective was to make doing values an automatic thing you don't have to think about. What was to be done was to take a repeatable 'unit',no larger than 1 1/2" in any direction, and repeat it over a 8"x10" paper with a border. The 'units' could be arranged in any direction and shaded in any way we wanted.

This was project was finished an 2/2/06 & was done entirely using graphite pencils. I could have made it symmetrically balance, which would have been easier, but I decided to try and make it look better and do an asymmetric design. The 'swirl' of large circles was my attempt to lead the eye through the work.

During the critique it was felt that the asymmetric design made it more interesting. When the class voted on whose they liked better, mine got the most votes =). It was felt that it could have been better by moving one of the dark dots to the upper left to make it balance better. It felt a little 'heavy' on the bottom right. Still it was good enough to be one of five in class to be put on display (The teacher usually doesn't display this project, but he was really impressed by what the class had done.). The teacher liked mine so much he took a picture of it. ((I don't know what he does with these pictures. I probably should have asked him.))

Grade - I got an 'A' for this project.
