Courtly
Nuriko
This picture is of everyone's favorite cross-dresser from Fushigi Yuugi......
Nuriko.
It was drawn in September of 2001. I inked it then SLOWLY colored it
over the next year or so and finally finished it on 1/4/03. It took so
long because I had a hard time deciding what colors to use. ~.~ Nuriko's
outfit, the flowers, & butterfly's were colored using colored pencils.
This pose was inspired by an illustration in Burne Hogarth's book 'Dynamic
Wrinkles and Drapery.' This is a wonderful book and I suggest it to anyone
as an excellent reference source.
The background on the other hand was surprisingly easy to do. It was
inspired by a cross stitch pattern I saw in a catalog and painted with
various acrylic craft paints I had lying around. It only took me about
an hour or so to do. I later 'joined' the foreground and background pictures
in Photoshop and enhanced the ground shadow digitally.
I really like the way this one came out... though I could have done a
better job on the drawing of his hands.
