Bramble on the Roof

This is a picture of Bramble, one of my original characters in the Heroic Legend of Arislan RPG that I was in. Originally he had a completely different hairstyle that I kind of made up. It was VERY SCARY so I'm not sure if I'll put any of those up.

It was drawn in May of 2000. I was experimenting, as always, with different ways to color pictures. I, thinking I was being frugal, has purchased some Roseart pencils and much to my dismay could never get the colors to come out as dark as I wanted. So then I got this idea to first color the picture in with crayons and 'scratch off' the wax with a colored pencil. The effect was much closer to what I was trying for and I did several pictures using this method. I have since abandoned using this method too much since pencils (I use several brands now.) do a better job at rendering a more even tone. Though it does work very well for certain skin colors and making something look like it's made of a velvety fabric.

The sky and roof in this picture were added digitally. I 'borrowed' the moon from a Fushigi Yuugi picture. Unfortunately the stars in the sky didn't show up to well when I resized it to fit on this page.=( Other than the fact that I think I may not have used enough shadows in this picture and I'm not crazy now about my 'scratch off' method, I like the way it turned out.
